THIS is the moment a gang of youths steal a steamroller and go on a joyride through an Ayrshire housing scheme.

A video shows five youths as they chant loudly and drive it on Whitletts Road in Wallacetown, Ayr.

In the clip, residents at their windows and passersby look on as the boisterous group drive the heavy vehicle.

Another youth walks behind the steamroller as it makes its way through the estate.

Police said officers received a report of the incident, which happened around 10pm last night.

Cops confirmed the steamroller was found in nearby Russell Drive and it has been returned to its owners.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the theft.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of youths who had stolen a tarmac roller and were driving it along Whitletts Road, Ayr.

“The incident happened around 10pm on Wednesday, 13 October.

“Officers traced the machinery in the Russell Drive area and it has been returned to the owners. Enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone who has any information relating to this incident should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 3552 of 13 October. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
