Good fan but not easy for this DIYer to installWe had an old contractor-grade low-volume vent hood that wasn’t cutting it. So when we recently bought a new gas range, we decided to get a new vent hood as well, and bought this Broan model. Once I got it installed (8 hours and two Home Depot trips later) I was quite happy with the performance. The dual fans are powerful but quiet, and come with an timed turn-off option that is handy. And the three-level LED lights are nice and bright. The controls are inutitive and easy to use. However… 1) I found the directions difficult to parse, especially as they are in teensy-weensy print with correspondingly teensy-weensy diagrams. How hard could it be to make the print and diagrams bigger? 2) The cabinet above our range is framed and had a recessed bottom. The previous hood fit within the recessed bottom, so there was no problem. The new hood did not fit within the recessed bottom. The intructions told me to use shims in this situation, but the “shims” would have needed to be 1 3/8″ thick (!) which is not a standard lumber dimension, and would have resulted in the hood being too low. I ended up removing the trim piece at the front of the cabinet (no mean feat, as it was secured with inaccessible pocket screws) and replacing it with a not-easy-to-find trim piece (poplar vs original oak, Home Depot trip) that resulted in no recess, and then tried to match the stain of the oak cabinets, with not very great results (see photo). 3) The instructions say to install the hood and then connect the ductwork, but this proved to be impossible. I needed to connect my hood vertically to a 7″ duct in the cabinet above the range. But the damper/transition piece that came with the hood was no thicker than the bottom of the cabinet, so there was no way to connect ductwork to it after the hood was installed. Instead, I had to screw-and-tape a 2-foot length of 7″ semi-rigid flex duct (Home Depot trip) to the top of the hood (picture the hood with a tall stovepipe hat on top, see photo) and then fish the duct through the 7″ hole in the bottom of the cabinet, all the while fishing the power line coming into the back of the hood. I’m sure it made for a comical sight, with me and my son (both of us about 6 feet tall and neither of us thin) crammed into the 30″ opening in the cabinets, manipulating the hood, duct, and power line! 4) The two pre-drilled holes for securing the front part of the hood to the bottom of the cabinet would not work, as they lined up right at the front edge of the bottom, where they would have split the wood and not held. We had to drill new holes in the hood (not a lot of access space inside that hood!!) and use these for the front screws. For new construction, or complete kitchen remodels, I’m sure installing this hood would be a piece of cake, but not for our kitchen. Oh, and I had to buy the 7″ semi-rigid flex duct ($25), some metal-backed tape ($6), a pair of tin snips to cut the semi rigid duct ($15), some 8″ worm-gear clamps ($11) and various odds and ends. Think twice about installing this yourself!

Check the item as soon as it’s delivered. Dented products. The brand name and having seen a friend of mine who has one motivated me to purchase. The one it replaced had about 150 cfm’s which did nothing. This is definitely a big change and works well and is quieter. My only issue was that it was the 2nd one amazon sent to me. The first one came in a box that looked like it was through a shredder and when opened had a large dent on the front. Oddly, where the dent was the box was not damaged. The 2nd one I received after exchanging, still had a very beat up box and the delivery driver even said is that a replacement…I said yes and he said he see’s that quite a bit. Had me concerned so I opened only to find that it was dented as well. Though not as bad, I needed to have installed because my kitchen is being remodeled and that was one of the last pieces to go in. Lightning is great, the fan works much better than the old one but just disappointed that they continued to send damaged products that I pay good money for. Dealing with this one because it’s not too bad but buyer beware. Check it as soon as it’s delivered.

Kitchen Vent Fan and Light — FANTASTIC improvement to my kitchenI had to do a lot of online searching to find a replacement for my 40-year-old builder-grade vent hood. The most common one available in home improvement stores was more of the same. I am very pleased with this one. I did not need “top of line” or “horribly expensive” replacement. Just something for the average homeowner and occasional cook. A nice up-grade for my kitchen without breaking the bank. The LED lights make a big difference over the stove and it has 3 light levels. The exhaust fan is VERY powerful and VERY quiet. My daughter was amazed when I turned it on and she could barely hear it. Plus the controls remember you settings each time you turn it on.

Quality well designed range hoodReview for Broan-NuTone BCDJ130WH Glacier Range Hood which was installed a month ago.I read many many reviews and decided to buy this one and it has met my expectations so far. Many reviews of other hoods complained of poor lighting. This hood is excellent from night light to bright. It looks classy and easy to clean. I installed ductless and yes, it’s loud on high fan but it does an acceptable job of removing steam and cooking smells. If you want all traces of your cooking sent outside you will need to get a ducted commercial hood. Another plus is the ease of installing the charcoal filters, a huge bonus as my last hood was extremely difficult. I would have given 5 stars but am waiting to see if the exhaust discolors my kitchen cabinet doors. So far all looks good. All in all I am more than satisfied and I am hard to please these days with such shoddy merchandise!

Very powerful suction great lightingThe range vent arrived on time with no damage. You do need two people for installation. The instructions are not very clear. The mounting brackets were under the cover of the dual fans. There are sharp edges so you may want to wear no cut gloves. The dual fans help with the suction and noise level. The led light are great. Ther are different settings for the lights and fan and there is a timer. We purchased the white to match our appliances. This unit replaced a microwave that was over the range. Very pleased with our purchase and highly recommended. Very nice product.

Excellent productWorth the splurge – a great upgrade. I wanted a range hood with enough suction to eliminate smoke and reduce cooking smells. I tried the big box stores, and couldn’t find one with enough CFMs. This unit meets and exceeds my expectations. There is a 3 way light, a 10 minute auto shut off, and 3 levels of suction. The high level is loud, but so effective. There are 2 powerful fans. It looks good in my kitchen – not too sleek, not bulky. I purchased the recommended filters at the same time, since they are not carried in stores, and must be mail ordered. They fit perfectly. Installation is a 2 person job. My installer cut his thumb, almost requiring sutures on an inner metal piece. We taped the edge off with electrical tape to prevent further injury. Shipping was super fast.

Excellent range hood. The operation of this range hood is very intuitive. The first 2 fan speeds are quiet although the 3rd, high speed is predictably noticeable. The noise reduction is amazing compared to my 18 year old Nutone unit it replaced. The different lighting selections are perfect for my old eyes. Although the instruction manual says installation is “EZE for one person”, I would challenge that unless you possess 4 hands. Installation is quite easy but you really need a second person, Very impressive product.
