Description
The CALIFORNIA AIR TOOLS 4620AC Ultra Quiet & Oil-Free Air Compressor is designed to be one of the quietest 2.0 Hp air compressors in the industry having only 70 decibels of sound. The Powerful “New” 2.0 HP (SP-9421) motor operates at only 1680 RPM creating less noise and less wear. The “New” SP Series of Ultra Quiet Air Compressor Motors have been designed to increase duty cycle and allow for longer continuous run times. The Oil-Free Dual Piston Pump System is engineered for high performance and durability. The CAT-4620AC Air Compressor has a Oil-Free Dual Piston pump designed to have a life cycle before wear of 3000 Plus hours compared to other comparable air compressors with life cycles of 500 hours or less. The Oil-Free pump allows for use in a variety of temperatures (cold starts) and uneven terrains (no oil in the pump). The Easy Start Valve feature allows for a easier start up using less starting amps. The Easy Start Valve releases a small amount of air from the pump at start up to produce a no-load condition allowing the motor to spin freely. This no-load start up requires less amps for an easier start up in cold temperatures. The large 4.6 Gallon Aluminum Air Tank is only 67.2 pounds making it very easy to move around the jobsite. Designed for the person looking for Power, Air Flow, Less Service and Maintenance with at Least 30% Less Noise.Low Amp Draw – 14 Amps

INCREDIBLE Product! Just DON’T buy it from Amazon. This air compressor is INCREDIBLE! If you use an air compressor for work or for personal use, this one is GREAT! There are several great aspects to it such as how fast it builds pressure and especially how QUIET it is. I run my compressor indoors and you can barely hear it when you are a room or two away from it.BUT….Just don’t buy it from Amazon. Why? Because you won’t be dealing with the normal incompetence we have all come to expect from the delivery drivers that Amazon has. No, you get to deal with a different group of delivery people who appear to have been hired for their complete lack of desire to make any attempt to deliver your product. I’m talking about the freight delivery people. My purchase was made after doing a fair amount of research on compressors. The California Air Tools compressor stood out from the rest. The dual piston design and the high power electric motor really set it apart from the rest.I set the delivery address to my work place address so I could be sure that the “porch pirates” wouldn’t get it. And since I set the address to a business address I left special instructions stating that I would be waiting at the address for the delivery, even AFTER normal business hours.Amazon’s phone app shows where the driver is and how many stops are before your delivery. The app showed that my delivery was only three stops away. I went to the front window to wait for the driver to arrive.A few minutes later I checked the app and a message appeared stating that the driver reported a delivery attempt was made but could not be completed. This was FALSE information #1 from Amazon.I called the customer service line to ask what happened for the delivery to not be made. The operator said that the driver reported that no one was available to receive the delivery. I asked the operator to look at the order’s special instructions. She saw that I had stated in the special instructions that I would personally be waiting at the address for the delivery. Then came FALSE information #2. The operator told me that she would contact the delivery driver and have them turn around and come back. The operator then asked if I would mind giving my cell number to give to the delivery driver so he could contact me when he was coming back. I gave my number and asked how long it would be before I would hear from the driver.FALSE information #3 from the operator was that it would be about 15 minutes when I would hear from the driver.I waited 30 minutes for my California Air Tools compressor delivery driver to contact me. And as you have probably guessed, no contact was made.I called the customer service number again. The operator who answered told me that the special instructions don’t actually go to the delivery driver which is something that I can’t confirm. But with how Amazon seems to operate, this wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Then the operator told me that they have no ability to send any sort of communication to the delivery drivers in the field. Again, this is something that I am not able to confirm. So, if you are in need of a great air compressor that is SUPER quiet and fast I would definitely recommend the California Air Tools line of compressors. The dual piston design will fill the 4.5~ gallon capacity of my compressor in just about a minute. When I do use it I don’t have to get out a 100 foot air hose and place the compressor outside, I can have it in the house or the room I am working in without having to deal with the noise other compressors make. The only thing I am not 100% satisfied with about my California Air Tools compressor is the pressure regulator. It isn’t the easiest to set to your desired pressure. When you turn the knob it will adjust the pressure in large jumps instead of a few PSI at a time. Maybe this is due to operator error or maybe it is something everyone experiences.Check out their line up if you are in need of an air compressor. Yes, they are more expensive than nearly every other brand out there. But the build quality and the operation of it are well worth the cost.Just don’t buy it from Amazon. You’ll regret it as much as I do when you get shafted by Amazon like I did.

Overall an excellent compressorOverall I like this product. It is lighter than my old Porter Cable model. The key features that make this product stand out is the exceptionally low noise level. No longer scared out of my wits when the compressor turns on like the Porter Cable. Next are the aluminum tanks which I considered more from a corrosion advantage than weight, but does also help to reduce carry weight. I also appreciate the easy access to the front air bleeder valve for discharging the compressed air and moisture when not in use. While this unit is lighter, it is still heavy to transport. However the product is designed in a way where the weight is more balanced and easier to carry. It is best to transport the unit by holding the handle from the back side, with tanks outward. The two things I wish to see improved are 1) the two air inlet tubes of the air filter and 2) the location of the on/off switch. For item 1, there are two filters at top of the compressor where two air inlet tubes stick out. They get knocked out during transport. I wish that if these tubes were facing downward rather than outward so that they are out of the way during transport. For item 2, the switch is near the bottom toward the back. When not transported, the unit sits under my workbench. To turn on the unit, it must be moved to gain access to the backside of the compressor. It would seem reasonable to incorporate an on/off switch on the front panel as there is adequate real-estate to install a more convenient front facing switch. Considering all other interaction with the compressor is on the front face, placing a switch on the front panel would be well received, and would be a differentiator over competing products which also do not offer a front facing power switch.

Excellent air compressor as expected, should have upgraded years agoI finally replaced my 4 gallon Porter Cable dual stack compressor of over 20 years with this one, and it has been great. I should have upgraded years ago as this one is much quieter and that was really my only complaint with my old compressor. In addition, this compressor seems to be solidly built, and the drain valve for the tanks is in front which is much easier to access for me as I have the compressor up against a wall. I also appreciate the on/off switch being pretty accessible on the side. My only small nit with the compressor is that the universal air fittings that come on it do not seal properly with an automotive fitting. I have other universal fittings that seal fine with both, but for some reason the ones on this compressor do not. I ended up just putting industrial fittings on my hoses to connect to the compressor, so not a big deal but something to note.

California air tools compressorWe received compressor on time and in great condition. It took only minutes to completely fill the tanks. When the pressure started to lower, it immediately kicked in and brought it back up. Any air pressure left in the tanks is held until your next job – it doesn’t leak out. I would recommend this compressor to everyone – whether it’s a small job or a big job.

superior built and very quietat first, I thought it was a bit expensive for the size… but when I opened the box I saw it’s nothing compared to what you can get at Canadian Tire or elsewhere… it’s bigger, built a lot better, very quiet and I like the aluminum tanks… no rust and a few pounds less. It’s borderline “portable” because of its weight (68 pounds). Overall, very happy!!! Quality/price it’s a good purchase, you will not be deceived!
