70 lb. Advanced AVT Breaker Hammer, accepts 1-1/8″ Hex bits
ANTI-VIBRATION TECHNOLOGY
The new 70 lb. AVT Breaker Hammer is engineered to hit like an air hammer, but with less noise and vibration. It has a powerful 15 AMP motor that delivers a full 53.9 ft.lbs. (73.8 Joules) of impact energy, so contractors get hard-hitting performance. Users also benefit from less noise and lower vibration than an air hammer, and zero hassle with an air hose and compressor. The HM1812 features the latest Advanced AVT Technology, a synchronized three-component system that more effectively reduces vibration. The internal mechanical counterbalance system, vibration-absorbing housing, and fixed movement handles are engineered for significantly less vibration during concrete breaking applications. Model HM1812X3 is a kit and also includes a Premium Hammer Cart, as well as two 1-1/8″ x 20-1/2″ Flat Chisels (1-1/8″ Hex) and two 16″ Self-Sharpening Bull Point bits (1-1/8″ Hex).
Additional Features
Soft start is designed to suppress start-up reaction for greater accuracy on start up
“No hammering when idling” function automatically reduces the speed of the motor when not in use which helps increase tool life and performance
L.E.D. power light indicates switch failure or cord damage
L.E.D. service light notifies the user approximately 8 hours before brushes need to be replaced
Automatic brush cut-off protects commutator from damage for longer tool life
Advanced AVT is a synchronized, three-component system that more effectively reduces vibration in varying conditions resulting in a low 6.5m/s2
Advanced AVT provides a mechanical counterbalance system for increased user comfort and greater productivity
Advanced AVT provides vibration absorbing housing effectively isolating more vibration away from the user
Advanced AVT provides rubberized fixed handles which dampen vibration for increased comfort and precision

Get a different bitThe spades bits are no good one break after first use and the other break after a couple of use but the jack hammer is really great just needs reliable bits

Unreliable, purchase the old model if you canMy crews use electric jackhammers everyday. I’ve had at least a dozen of the old style Makita breakers and have always been happy with them. We generally get 2 years out of them which is great for how often they get used.I heard about this new hammer and was sold on the extra power and less vibrations. After purchasing, the unit seemed well built. After a month of use the guys were complaining saying that it’s not hitting hard. A few more uses and it’s completely dead.I contacted Makita and was instructed to bring it to a local authorized service center. The service center told me that essentially every electrical component is broken and will need to be replaced. Kind of pathetic for a “new and improved” unit but maybe we got a bad unit. At least it’s covered under warranty.Today I get a call from the service center letting me know that the parts are on backorder until August. Not only am I down a hammer during the busy season, but this leads to me believe there’s a widespread issue hence the parts availability.I’d recommend you purchase the old units if you can find them. This new one is a big fail, back to Hilti I guess.

Great Demo Power, no vibration in the hands! Minor flawsJust chipped through a very hard concrete foundation, with a unit a purchased at HDepot for the same price and quicker shipping.Fantastic no hands vibration design and amazing demo power. You just squeeze the trigger on watch it go! Bosch bits work great. Nothing like the 90 lb hammers of yesteryear.Design fail – the new moil point with a retainer ring relies on a cam engaging on the shaft flat spot. In order to engage the cam, the retainer clip has to be at 90 degrees, a position it is not natural to stay in. After fighting with the retainer for half an hour we stopped using the moil points, we are only using the points with a retainer ring to engage the tool retainer.

A Must Have for Demolition ContractorsI rented one of these after spending hours with a concrete saw, cold chisels and hammers. Many aching muscles later, with the job half done, I changed to the Makita HM1812X3 70lb Advanced AVT Breaker Hammer (what a mouthful). It took longer to get the machine from the rental store than it did to finish the job. The video demonstration in the description on Amazon is true. The Makita tore through the remaining footings with ease. It is heavy but once in position it is easy to handle. It does not bounce around it just pulverizes its way through the concrete with little vibration to the user.Every contractor that does demolition should own one of these. Every homeowner that has to tear out a patio or walk should rent one.
