HONEST review after months on the job sites Just to inform the reader, I have no preference of brand, I have them all, as long as it is of good value and quality. I rather spend a few extra $$ and get something I won’t regret.I searched extensively for a compact miter saw that would fit my needs and also be a long term investment. I had two requirements: corded and “compact”. In reality it’s not a tiny saw when you consider it’s a compound saw with sliding rails, but that is outweighed by the mere fact you can use this saw for so many applications – trim, moldings, casings, flooring, common lumber etc.Upon arrival, it was very well packed and shipped in it’s original packaging. Taking it out and looking at it it has some features that just seem “cheap”. Little things such as the clamp, extensions, screws and the fact it didn’t have a clip on the corded head. It seemed like short cuts were taken. Regardless, i was excited for a new tool. Before anything, I took silicone spray and sprayed and wiped all surfaces and lubricated all moving points (did this from some reviews stating it was rusting).I have used it on many small jobs now where I don’t need to set up a shop with my festool kapex. (I’m a boutique contractor you could say – I do all the job others don’t want to be bothered with). It has done really well for the applications I’ve needed it for. There is some play in the rail but once you know this you just have to do a fluent cut without left or right pull/push force. The table is a bit small, so even with the table extensions it’s useless. I made separate blocks to hight of the table to resolve this issue. If you have a miter stand, this of course isn’t necessary. The dust port is adequate, not the best, even with a vacuum attached there is a fair amount of larger saw dust escaping. The light is uselessThe safety lock is poorly designed with the plastic cap always coming off when you pull on it.Overall, the motor, trigger, compact size, company rep, and saws versatility makes this a great investment. I gave it only three honest stars because I think it’s a tad overpriced and lacks some “quality” parts.I uploaded a video of it in action cutting a pine brick molding.

Broke after two days of use.We purchased this Makita sliding compound miter saw Model #LS0815F and it was delivered on June 2 2022. It was purchased in anticipation of installing new flooring. We did not take it out of the box until August 19th 2022 when the boxes of new flooring arrived at our home. It ran nicely and we started cutting and installing our new floors. Then on the third day I saw some metal pieces drop on the ground. Now the blade guard will not retract as you lower the arm down to cut pieces of wood. I called Amazon but it is out of the return window. So now we have to box up the Makita Slide Compound Miter Saw ( IT must be prepaid freight) at our expense and ship it back to Makita for a repair or replacement at Makita’s option. I guess we should have waited until we had the flooring to buy the Makita Model LS0815F Sliding Compound Miter Saw but who would have thought that an expensive saw would have pieces already fatigued and breaking after 200 square feet of wood flooring! On a positive note , we did like the slow start and the electric brake features and it cut nicely with the new diablo 60 tooth blade we bought from Home Depot. We will have to go buy another saw from Home Depot so that we can finish our flooring installation. We will have to box this Makita Sliding Compound Miter Saw up and send it to Makita for the repairs. We can NOT recommend this saw because parts fatigue and failure after a couple days of use!

Not your father’s Makita:-(My father was a contractor and always rated Makita very highly. Later while working for a home builder I noted that Makita had a strong presence amongst the finish carpenters. I have also used Makita tools over the years doing various carpentry work as well and have a favorable impression of them. They are a bit more expensive in some cases, but well built, well engineered, and precise. This nostalgia led me to confidently buy this Makita 8 1/2″ slider on Amazon. However, I was dismayed to find upon opening the package that Makita has used cheap plastic parts in important places such as the miter lock knob, the miter latch, power/safety switch on the handle, and the bevel lock knob. The miter latch in particular gets a lot of use (every time you change the miter angle), and is really thin and flimsy, sort of what you might expect on cheap children’s toys. Every time you make a cut you feel this thing and think, “what a junky part, I wonder how long it will last..”. I really cannot believe that they have used this material- very disappointing. The only other negative thing I would not is that the preset positive miter stops (90, 45 degree etc) have some play. Of course you tighten it down (but where in the slot do you tighten it down- do you always go left or right??) but with about a 64th inch play on a long angle this can be a significant gap on a miter for finish work.Otherwise the saw cuts well, the soft start is nice, and the fence and table work fine. The fence needed to be trued but this is standard procedure on a new saw. Because of the small blade size and the configuration of the blade guard it is difficult to view your cut line so it would benefit from a laser, or at least some notches in the guard like Dewalt has. Probably the best thing about this saw the small size and weight which makes it really easy to pack around.I have trimmed out one house with it and it does the job, so I will stick with this one rather than go through the trouble and expense of shipping it back and looking for a new saw. This saw seems to be made for the do it yourself market rather than professionals, and to be fair it is priced a couple hundred dollars below their most expensive miter saws. So I would recommend this saw for do it yourselfers that don’t mind spending a bit more, or pro’s that want a lightweight saw, and are willing to be very careful about how they handle it.
