Pricey but awesome.I’ve been running this motor for 3 weeks so I’m ready to review. I added a Kipawa 3 blade propeller for extra speed, a 60amp Blue Seas breaker, and the Minn Kota quick disconnect model RTA-17. BUY THE DISCONNECT and make your life easier. This motor is fantastic. I have been fishing the Columbia River with it. I use spot lock on the river when I first start to get my rods and tackle and net ready. Then I run autopilot when I start trolling. We have to troll fast on the Columbia River with pro-trolls and spinners and this motor does the job for my 18ft boat. Most guys are using gas kicker motors on the river to push their boats around. I’m one of the few that is all electric.I spent a lot of time on deciding shaft length. I measured 22″ from my bow to the water line. I’m so glad I got the 54″ shaft. The 45″ shaft would have been way to short. My 54″ shaft comes close to coming out of the water when a big wave from a tugboat or ship goes by. I really didn’t want the 60″ shaft for my little boat (Lowe Roughneck) as it would have gobbled up my bow deck or overhang the gunnel. My record so far is 4 hours of trolling with over 50% battery left. For trolling I’m at 55-75% throttle most of the time. I’m running two group 27 deep cycle batteries from Costco. They get the job done. Some tips on the remote battery life. First switch to rechargeable AAA batteries. Second turn down the contrast as low as possible (remember you graphing calculator?). I got weeks of use without have to recharge batteries. Eneloop batteries are the best I’ve seen. Some negatives. The steering in autopilot gets wobbly when I run 80-100% throttle and troll with the current. The boat zig zags. I called Minn Kota and they said to reduce the boat scale to -2. I did and it helped but they said this is a artifact of running a motor designed for a 4000lbs boat on a 1800lbs boat. I also tried legacy autopilot mode but I also zig zagged. I can live with it. Trolling against the current or wind the autopilot is perfect.Another negative. It’s pricey. This motor better last 10 years or more. I feel like the warranty is pretty short at 2 years. Should be 3-5 years in my opinion. I have a repair center that is 30 minutes away if things get bad so that is comforting.

Make sure your wiring is correct. When you fish by yourself it takes the work out of standing on a foot control. Allows me to fish from the back of the boat. When you get a fish on just hit stop lock. Concentrate on catching without floating off even in windy conditions. Once you practice your controls you will get better. I improved my fishing skill catching more and bigger fish. I bought a 60 amp connector, 60amp breaker, and the mounting plate. You can’t hardly go wrong. Just be careful when you hit the high speed.

Alot of money but worth itThis has to be the best trolling motor on the market. Anchor lock holds you within 5′-10′ (point your boat into the wind before setting), Remote is a little small (mainly the buttons & close together, but I’m getting use to it), remote tells you how fast you are going, what speed your motor is on, buy the quick disconnect mount for the motor(it makes mounting the motor easier plus pull the pin and take it off, I found this out after opening the box and reading the direction, I had know idea about the quick disconnect mount). I believe you can’t go wrong with this. Alot of money but worth it.

Total satisfactionThe product arrived early and works exactly as advertised

Excellent motor.I really like the simplicity of the manually-deployed motors. This is a quiet motor and easy to control. If you are in the market for an 80lb thrust motor, think hard about this one (but do yourself a favor and don’t get an “auto-deployable” motor!).

  8. Charles B.

Very nice! The motor operates as described. I enjoy the remote control and flexibility to operate from anywhere in the boat. Spot Lock is cool and works really well! I would have given the motor 5 stars except the power cord is too short to comfortably reach across the front deck to the plug.
