Very noisey and loud!It takes some plumbing adjustments and re-routs if your are replacing a gas tank water heater, and you have to provide an electric circuit and condensate drain, too. I am surprised at how much noise this water heater makes! When the water is “on”, it makes no noise, but when it is “off,” there is a fan motor that comes on randomly throughout the day that hums and changes pitch. Maybe it has something to do with the “condensing” feature of this machine, but I really never expected it to be so annoyingly noisey! There is also quite a pressure drop through this machine. My shower no longer sprays like it used to, and the kitchen sink faucet runs pretty slow now too. It’s installed, so I guess I’ll have to live with it.

If your looking to install indoors get the “iN” “Indoor Natural Gas” it can be vented with 2” PVCPretty Easy to install, trying to get a circulating pump working with it. Long wait time for hot water on the long runs of plumbing.

Never run out of hot water! An easy install if you are comfortable with gas, plumbing, and electricity. Great for a family because you have unlimited hot water for all the showers, dishwasher, and anything else you need to do. Not so great, because that means your teenager will never run out of hot water and get out of the bathroom. Would I get this again? Absolutely!

Don’t Wait! Buy it now.I replaced an old tankless water heater with this new one. The installation was a breeze, the newer technology was easier for the exhaust to be mounted. I only run a half inch gas line and this unit so far has stood up to the challenge. We will see what happens during the winter when the furnace is also running. So far, this unit is excellent. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a tankless water heater. I have a family of six and Run two showers at once with no problems whatsoever on the highest heat setting.

Not for DIYers without sound plumbing skills. This is an excellent unit. Installation is a bit of a PIA and if not done by a Rinnai certified installer, will void the warranty. On the other hand, that will cost more than the unit, itself. Be aware, installation requires the ability to safely run copper pipe for the water, BIP for the gas supply and PVC for venting. Doing either of the second or third things wrong can be fatal, as in kill you. Seriously. Don’t try it if you’re not certain of your abilities. That said, it ain’t rocket science.

Just Say NO!We purchased this unit expecting great things. First of all, we researched tankless hot water heaters for an entire month before making our purchase. The unit itself was quite expensive compared to a traditional hot water heater, however, we were convinced this would provide endless hot water for our family and we would never have to worry about having gallons of water leaking in the garage.Pros: We have never run out of hot water.Cons: After the initial purchase of the unit from Amazon, we hired a professional plumbing company to install. This took the better part of an afternoon and cost $750 to install. 6 months after instillation the tankless heater was leaking heavily. After calling the plumber, they diagnosed the unit as needing to have the entire heat exchanger replaced. We called Rinnai warranty and made a claim. To their credit they replaced the heat exchanger part at no cost to us. HOWEVER, we had to pay $143 of the $343 in labor costs out of our own pocket as Rinnai only covers $200 max. Fast forward 363 days later ( we have now owned the unit a whopping 18 months), the tankless hot water heater was leaking all over again. We called the plumber and they come and found the heat exchanger failed again. Rinnai once again replaced the PART but this time informed us that any labor reimbursement on repairs expired 1 year from date of purchase! So, we just forked out another $343 in labor costs! Grand total for this piece of junk hot water heater is now at $2484.97. There are just way too many parts in this contraption that could fail. We are finding out the hard way. Also, we do not have hard water (we called the utility company for analysis, and we maintained the unit by flushing it at the recommended times). Save yourself a massive headache and don’t buy this water heater which will end up costing as much as a small car.

Hot water as advertised, better know how to use toolsThis is a worthy investment. The heater delivers water quietly and efficiently. It is simple to adjust though it does require some maintenance. Installing this heater is not for the weekend DIYer. If you are not comfortable with close to pro-level construction skills, then by all means please have a contractor that is install this for you. This product requires significant plumbing skills in addition to carpentry and electrical. If you are replacing an existing tank water heater, you may be looking at a new gas line installation as well (more likely than not). If you want to become more familiar with the product and its installation, be sure to look up Mr. Rinnai Mike on YT – he does a great job of explaining the product line and what it takes to install.

hidden cost but worth itlittle did I know rinnai pretty much will void the warranty if you do not have it professionally installed, I did and it cost more than the unit, that was after calling around. Glad I did, it looks simple but the plumber did a good job and it did take a bit to install it properly. its been working for a year now and has not disappointed, the next project is a water softener.

Can’t override 120 degree maxThis unit is great, but I wish that we could set the temperature higher. It says 120 degrees, but we have to shower with 100% hot water, so I think it’s on;y about 110 degrees.
